Moshi Monsters Originals is a complementary release to the Moshi Monsters figures series, manufactured by Vivid Imaginations.

At its debut, the series saw the re-release of classic figures from UK series 1 through to series 3, allowing collectors to 'catch up' on their collection as these figures were no longer sold. The figures were originally sold in blister packs and blind packs however with time, larger sets were released containing ten or twenty figures. In 2013, series 4 and series 5 figures were added to the collection. By August 2014, series 6 to 8 were added and by January 2015, all classic figures up to series 11 had been found in Originals packs.

'Originals' saw ultra-rare and special variant figures become more common - Ultra Rare characters were often visible in blister packs (instead of potentially in the surprise compartment), and special (glitter/gold/etc.) figures were more common in blind bags. Figures previously exclusive to tins, books and other merchandise (such as Bubbly Jeepers and Bauble Red figures) were added to the collection in February 2015. These were often found visible. This is likely due to the manufacturers having an overstock of these figures.

Gold figures in particular were more common, with one appearing in most blind bags. A pattern was noted - that if this is the case, then the entire box follows this pattern. If there is an overstock of a certain figure, there is no pattern but said figure dominates the box and is usually in the majority of the packets.

New variants were also added to the series - mainly gold figures for Series 1 and 2 characters (apart from Lady Goo Goo and Dustbin Beaver). These vary slightly from those exclusive to the gold tins. Series 1 figures were re-released in an orange-glitter finish and Series 2 figures were re-released in yellow glitter. A select few series 3 characters were later too released in orange glitter with the 'Ultimate Collection' set. In addition, a third wave of 'super bright' figures were released exclusive to 'Originals'.

Trivia

  • In February 2015, it was descovered that Originals now included special figures, "limited edition" or "exclusive" to certain packets. These are visible in the packets and not hidden.
  • On the packets with the exclusive figures, the copyright dates were 2011, for blisters, and then 2010 on the blind bags. It is unknown why.
