Food is a type of item used to feed your monster in Moshi Monsters. Its function is keeping your monster healthy and happy so that you can interact with them normally in your room.
Some functions surrounding your monster and food have been removed with an animation update, such as them showing they feel full or empty. What stayed was the eating animation and their reaction to the food; also animated and with commentary.
Food is found in the room inventory, alongside Room Items. Within the inventory space it is not provided a special section so one has to guess what is food and what is furniture. The food needs to be dragged to the monster or will be dragged back to the inventory once released somewhere else in the room.
Food is not widespread distributed; Snozzle Wobbleson basically ran a monopoly on it until the opening of Rare & Scare, a Halloween themed shop that sold both food as furniture, and McDolphins, specialized in pirate/sea themed foods. Having so many food options is simply for humor's sake and world building; most users will stock on the healthy food as a monster does not require variety for the initial goal food has.
Food Facts[]
The worst possible food to give your monster is Slop. The best food, introduced to get users who have not logged in for a while get their Monsters healthy fast, is Emergentea.
Food and Fiction[]
Food as an item is not to be confused with every other instance of food present in the fiction. Sometimes assets are being (re)used for Food items, such as the Glump Cakes from Moshling Boshling. A Sauce of Course from Ice Scream is another example of a Food both appearing in a minigame as in stores.
As the franchise is about monsters doing monstrous things there is a subtle theme present of being predatory towards each other. Hoodoos have been accused of it, Jibbly is explicitly said to do so and the Foodies are shown to be constantly hunted, most prominently Oddie, whose species would have gone extinct if it wasn't for their speed. Buster Bumblechops has stated to have eaten a FrazzledragonThe Moshling Collector's Guide even though he has also claimed to never do that because "Moshlings are too cute"The All-New Moshlings Collector's Guide. In "Ask Mr Moshi with Roary Scrawl", when Mr. Moshi stated Eye Pie is his favourite food, Roary Scrawl felt threatened. Similarly, Zommer's eyeball has been used as marshmallows.
The difference between food for consumption and characters became explicitly blurred with the opening of the Food Factory. Here, all topping are considered characters alike any other; with a name, figure and biography. Once prepared for Pizza, they are fed to Moshlings inside the Food Factory area,
While Bongo Colada has seen its release as a food, some commonly fictionally referred to Food has not.
- Wobble-ade, a beverage heavily mentioned and even the in-fiction "sponsor" of the entire Movie.
- Oobla Doobla, a Music Island swamp's native fruit, is a prominent food topic described as delicious when fried or microwaved but troublesome when eaten raw. It appeared as a Mission Item in Bungle in the Jungle and Cosmic Countdown. It has only been given as a food from Big Bad Bill (obviously) during Somewhere Clover the Rainbow. However, this is Yucky Yellow Oobla Doobla, which is different from regular green Oobla Doobla.
- Hoodoo Stew may share its name with the Food item Hoodoo Stew but looks different and has a different purpose than just to be sold in a store for all to enjoy. It is a stew made to establish peace among the Hoodoo tribes in the Gombala Gombala Jungle and moreso greenish in colour, filled with fruits and Creepy Crawlies. The store bought Hoodoo Stew is brown with bones.
Most beverages have been referred to as having sedative effects. Wobble-ade, Bongo Colada, Emergentea, Toad Soda and even the water from Potion Ocean are described as such.
